The University of California's five medical centers offer high quality patient care while educating the next generation of healthcare professionals and advancing cutting edge research. The medical centers provide a high volume of quality care — each year, they see 143,000 inpatient discharges, 246,000 emergency room visits and 3.7 million outpatient visits. They provide a full range of healthcare services in their communities and are sites for the development and testing of new diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. Collectively, these centers comprise the fifth largest healthcare delivery system in California and one of the state’s largest providers of healthcare to low-income, medically vulnerable patients.

UC DAVIS MEDICAL CENTER

The University of California, Davis Health System is the only academic medical center in the region. The medical center has earned national and international distinction in its patient care, diagnostic and specialized treatment programs, and bench-to-bedside research. In July 2008, US News & World Report ranked UCDHS in the top 50 nationwide for its specialty in Orthopedics. UCDHS is the only Level I trauma center in inland Northern California, covering 33 Counties and 65,000 square miles, and averages over 4,000 trauma patients per year, making it the number five trauma center nationally.

UC IRVINE MEDICAL CENTER

University of California, Irvine Medical Center is the only university hospital in Orange County. Established in 1976, the 444-bed medical facility offers a full scope of acute- and general-care services, including a neuropsychiatric center, regional burn center, Level I trauma center and National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. In July 2008, US News & World Report ranked UC Irvine Medical Center in the top 50 nationwide in three different specialties - Urology, Geriatrics and Gynecology. In 2003, UC Irvine Medical Center became the first hospital to receive the Magnet Designation for nursing excellence in Orange County.

RONALD REAGAN UCLA MEDICAL CENTER

The Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is the flagship hospital of a Health System consisting of a top rated Faculty Practice Group, three hospitals and an array of community-based clinics. Established in 1955, the medical facility is known worldwide for its pioneering technological contributions, including advancements in organ transplantation, cancer discoveries, as well as heart and neurosurgical treatments. In July 2008, US News & World Report named Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center the No. 3 hospital in the nation and, for the 19th consecutive year, as the best hospital in the Western United States. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center also scored at the “honor roll” level in 14 specialties. In 2005, the medical center earned Magnet status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association.  More than 300,000 people from the local region and around the world come to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center each year to receive care from some of the world’s best healthcare providers.

UC SAN DIEGO MEDICAL CENTER


The University of California, San Diego Medical Center is San Diego's only university hospital system, recognized for clinical and research excellence in a wide range of specialties, including cancer care, robotic and minimally invasive surgery, cardiovascular disease, orthopedics, respiratory care and gynecology. UC San Diego Medical Center provides care at two hospital facilities in Hillcrest and La Jolla, and at a number of outpatient centers.  Among the UC San Diego Medical Centers' leading clinical services are the comprehensive solid organ transplant and bone marrow transplant programs, San Diego's only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, a JCAHO-certified stroke center, trauma and burn care, as well as the region's leading center for high risk pregnancy management and infant special care. Established in 1966, the health system will report over 136,700 inpatient days in 2008 and handle more than 533,000 ambulatory visits. In July 2008, UC San Diego Medical Center was recognized by US News & World Report for placing in the top 50 nationwide for eight different specialties - Respiratory Disorders, Cancer, Gynecology, Kidney Disease, Psychiatry, Rheumatology, Urology, and Ear, Nose and Throat.

UC SAN FRANCISCO MEDICAL CENTER

UCSF Medical Center is a world leader in health care, known for innovative medicine, advanced technology and compassionate care.  It is one of the top 10 hospitals in the nation, ranked No. 7 by U.S. News & World Report,. In that survey, it is the highest ranked hospital in Northern California. Established in 1907, UCSF was the first medical center in the UC system. Today, it includes UCSF Children's Hospital and the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center. Its expertise covers virtually all specialties, including heart and vascular disease, infertility, neurological disorders, organ transplants and orthopedics as well as special services for women and children.

UC STUDENT HEALTH CENTERS

The University of California’s campus health services promote students' good health and well-being — which are important elements in their academic success as well as the overall the quality of campus life. UC student health centers provide a comprehensive array of accessible, convenient, cost-effective health care and health promotion services. These services include education about healthful lifestyles and behavior that prevent illness and lead to optimal health. UC also plays an important role as a health care advocate for its students.
