 June 2007 Bargaining Highlights
UC medical and student health centers offer some of the best patient care in the country and our nurses play a vital role in helping the University deliver that care. As part of our ongoing commitment to recognizing nurses’ many contributions, UC medical facilities offer some of the most generous compensation and benefits packages available in today’s healthcare market. Attracting, retaining and appropriately compensating nurses remains one of our top priorities.
JUNE 11-13, 2007 BARGAINING HIGHLIGHTS
SALARY SURVEY & FUTURE PROPOSAL: The University is committed to ensuring that UC nurses’ salaries remain competitive. According to UC’s nurse salary survey that was presented to CNA this month, overall UC nurses’ salaries are market-competitive.
UC will present a wage proposal once the bargaining team receives and evaluates
all campus wage information.
OFFER TO EXTEND CONTRACT:
UC proposed an extension of the current contract in exchange for a one-step experience increase for eligible nurses, effective July 1, 2007. The current contract expires June 30, 2007.
The proposed extension would make the current contract effective through September 2007and allow more time to reach agreement through good faith bargaining.
HEALTH BENEFITS:
We are currently reviewing bids from multiple health care vendors for 2008 medical benefits for all UC employees and retirees.
The University is committed to providing CNA and nurses with the information necessary to make informed decisions about health benefits. Accordingly, we have provided CNA with information on this process and proposed that nurses retain the UC medical benefits program designed to provide the best options at the lowest cost for all employees. We will continue to bargain in good faith to seek a resolution on this issue.
