 June 2007 Bargaining Highlights
UC medical and student health centers offer some of the best patient care in the country and our nurses play a vital role in helping the University deliver that care. As part of our ongoing commitment to recognizing nurses’ many contributions, UC medical facilities offer some of the most generous compensation and benefits packages available in today’s healthcare market. Attracting, retaining and appropriately compensating nurses remains one of our top priorities.
UC AND CNA AGREE TO A CONTRACT EXTENSION
- CNA, on June 19th, 2007, formally agreed to accept the University’s proposal to extend the current contract for nurses through September 30, 2007. The current contract was previously scheduled to expire on June 30, 2007.
- This extension allows UC and CNA to continue good faith bargaining throughout the summer as we work together to reach a new multi-year contract.
- As part of the contract extension agreement, UC offered to implement the one-step “experience increase” for eligible nurses, effective the first day of the first pay period in July.
- The contract extension also means that there will be no changes in medical or retirement benefits for nurses during this period.
- The next bargaining sessions are scheduled for June 26-28, where we will continue to discuss wages, health care benefits, staffing proposals and flexible leave time options, in addition to other issues important to nurses.
