August Bargaining Highlights

August Bargaining Highlights

COMMITTED TO REACHING AN AGREEMENT: Since the beginning of bargaining in April, the University has made various proposals to CNA on key articles of the contract. Among these include providing the union with a comprehensive document outlining areas on which the University was willing to make concessions in exchange for concessions by the union. UC is committed to bargaining in good faith to reach a beneficial contract for nurses as soon as possible. We are hopeful that the CNA will bring the same resolve to this important bargaining process.

UC NURSE SALARY INCREASES PROPOSED: After a thorough study of market salary data, UC has proposed salary increases for a three-year contract that ensure UC nurses will continue to rank among the highest paid in their respective markets. We recognize that salary is the cornerstone of a contract with CNA and the university bargaining team looks forward to CNA's response to our proposal.

PAID TIME OFF (PTO) - MORE FLEXIBILITY AND VACATION TIME FOR NURSES: PTO continues to be an important topic as we continue talks with CNA. Our PTO proposal would create two "banks" of leave time for nurses – paid time off and long-term sick leave – providing nurses additional hours for vacations and personal leave, and the ability to receive pay for unused leave time. Unlike sick leave, PTO is owned by the nurse. Unlike some other employers' PTO programs, the UC plan does not reduce the total number of sick and vacation days that nurses can access. More information on the University's PTO proposal for nurses can be found at www.UCNurses.com under the "Important Issues" section.

HEALTH AND RETIREMENT BENEFITS: The University is proposing that CNA accept the same health and retirement benefits that UC provides to all other UC employees.
